A Look Back Through Time...

Although Stirling Terrace is now on the bottom end of the CBD, in its heyday it was the CBD! For more than a century following the establishment of Albany, Stirling Terrace was the main street of town. The Dylan's building was built by John McKail, a merchant and Consul to the German Empire. During the building's life it has had many identities - from a tobacconist and hairdresser, engineering and carriage company, hostels & a bookshop.

Morris & Gwen Blake, owners of Dylans, bought the building in 1981 in a derelict state of repair. Initially, it was renovated to a leasable condition and Sophie's Bookshop operated out of it for 4 years. The conversion to Dylan's on the Terrace was completed in 1987.

When Dylan's opened in 1987, it was staffed by Morris, Gwen & six additional staff members. Today we employ over 35 people as cooks, waitpersons, kitchenhands, cleaners & office staff!

The ongoing success of Dylan's has been due to our commitment to consistently high standards of service & quality of food.
