The Amity, under the command of Major Edmond Lockyer, sailed to Princess Royal Harbour from Sydney to establish the first British settlement in Western Australia. In June 1845 the “Amity” was wrecked in Bass Strait with no loss of life after 30 years of faithful service.

In 1972 after 2 years of research, a group of local interested people began the project to build a replica of the brig in time to commemorate the 150th anniversary and planned to celebrate the arrival of the brig, on Christmas Day 1976.

Due to this commitment the Amity is now a popular attraction where you can discover what it was like to sail in the conditions of the day.
